Q&A from Episode 55

Q. Can any OEM USB cameras currently support native camera control in teams room app?
A. It will be for PTZ mechanical cameras only, and I’m guessing they will need to support UVC protocol.

Q. Has a date been confirmed and announced for this cut off/cut over yet for AOSP?
A. No, each OEM has to complete validation, so dates will vary form end of 2024 and into 2025.

Q. I guess you could firmware convert some these EOL brands/models to SIP Gateway handsets to be a little more earth friendly?
A. Maybe some of the Yealink or AudioCodes if they make the software available, otherwise the Crestron’s won’t have anything available as they do not have a SIP client.

Q. Any other plans to include other Digital Signage platforms?
A. Nothing public as yet.

Q. Is there a link to a list of cameras that support people counting for the Dynamic tile resizing. Are there any other pre-reqs?
A. No, unfortunately nothing is published yet.

Q. Cloud IntelliFrame option with the new update. Does this work? or which camera supports it?
A. Any cameras that support IntelliFrame will utilise this new feature.

Q. What can cause the “Edge WebView 2” to not being installed properly? (FW not opened properly)?
A. Maybe running an Out of the box Windows image shouldn’t cause any issues then.

Q. With the new UI for Surface Hub (3 or migrated 2s) – are there any scenarios where whiteboards are stored in Azure or is everything now in OneDrive?
A. Everything is in OneDrive now

Q. How would MDEP affect all Android OS?
A. MDEP won’t have any effect on existing Android based devices. MDEP will mainly be for new devices to market.

Q. Are there any services that can do the IMDF conversion for free?
A. Justin in Australia discovered this site that offered a free conversion. Visit MappedIn https://www.mappedin.com/imdf/microsoft-places/

Q. Does anyone know if the new proximity join via ultrasound, verses Bluetooth, work on standard USB audio devices, e.g. Logitech Rally, Biamp Tesira etc. ? Or does it require a special transducer device attached to the compute?
A. This ultrasound on MTR-W should work with external audio on these rooms as it would be emitted by the speakers connected to a DSP.

Q. Any rumblings when walk-up whiteboarding may be coming to MTRoW?
A. No idea when that might come to the MTR-W devices.

Q. Thoughts on using a separate tenant for only mtrow for additional security? Any glaring advantages or disadvantages based on your experience?
A. Just don’t do it. Best to put the devices outside the firewall as it just talks to the Microsoft Teams cloud.

Q. Is there a guide/FAQ on AOSP migration for devices?
A. Check out the one I wrote here.
