So I wanted to experience a SfB lab as I’ve already used LCS, OCS, OCSR2, Lync 2010 and Lync 2013, so SfB was a natural progression.
Following Jeff Schertz’s blog was great as it included everything I needed. Part one and part two.
However I came across one issue when publishing the topology. It would not pass the file share element with an access denied error (“Error accessing share \\<server\share – Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation” is occurring). My account is a Domain Admin and in the correct admin groups for SfB etc.
In the end I had to run the Topology Builder as “Run an Administrator” and then it worked. There are quite a few suggestions here on Technet.
I also noticed this error when trying to start the services via powershell, they would not start unless I was running powershell as administrator.
Strange and odd. Maybe because I am not using the “Domain Administrator” account, I am using a copy of it.
